SHURA CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HALT TO THE OFFENSIVE IN MARJAH , AFGHANISTAN
div align="left">
The Secretariat for the Ulama Assembly of Asia (SHURA) calls for the international community to condemn and to stop
the ongoing inhuman offensive by the U.S. Marines and Afghan troops across the Taliban haven of Marjah, in Afghanistan.
The estimated 15,000 U.S., Afghan and British troops reported as the biggest joint operation since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan is unlawful and violates international law.
The Sunday assault by U.S. rockets which slammed into a home outside Marjah, killing 12 civilians must be strongly condemned and the operation must be halted.
Any claim of precision target by the most sophisticated armament so called High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, should not be allowed in the first place. NATO’s brushing off the incident as just a mere missed target is most unacceptable.
SHURA questions the inaction of the international community to sit and watch the news of six children who was killed from the rocket strike.
The British Chief of the Defense Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup called the off-target strike a "very serious setback" in efforts to win the support of local communities is not an excuse for the operation to proceed.
It is most outrageous for the Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who merely pleaded NATO and Afghan forces to be cautious about civilian casualties ahead of the offensive.
Hamid Karzai should take full responsibility on the whole operation.
It is not enough to only listen to the top NATO commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who apologized for "this tragic loss of life" and suspended use of the sophisticated rocket system pending a thorough review when the attack is intended to kill be it civilians or otherwise.
SHURA call on all anti war and human rights activists to galvanise international support to stop the barbaric killings by the colluding forces of the Afghan and foreign troops in Marjah. The continued inaction of NGOs advocating for peace is most disturbing .
SHURA demands for the pull out of all foreign troops out of Afghanistan and leave the country to be decided by its own rule of civil law.
Abdul Ghani Samsuddin
Chairman of SHURA
